Return to the Land
The "Return to the Land" initiative is alternative, decolonized education that diverges from mainstream norms. It helps us to reassess and rectify our flawed systems and to create lasting positive change for the future. For the past 20 years, Sassafras has developed and implemented earth education that includes experiential learning, ancient practices, and storytelling. We are passionate about collaborating and sharing with other Indigenous individuals and communities, so we can begin to heal and reclaim our ways of life.
CULTURAL MENTORING
The Indigenous people of Turtle Island have developed and refined cultural mentoring practices over millennia. This resulted in calibrated educational systems that were truly regenerative, and placed great value on living in balance with the earth and caring for the future generations of all beings.
WHY ITS IMPORTANT
Through destruction, oppression and colonialism these systems were attempted to be erased. We now live in a time of rectification and making important choices for the future generations. As Indigenous people, the land is who we are and where we need to return for our healing and humanity’s survival.
